The writing in Hebrew says "May it will be a sweet and good year", corresponds with the tradition to eat an apple dipped in honey that symbolises sweetness. Enamel is the name of the opaque glossy substance that is a type of glass, applied by vitrification to metallic or other hard surfaces for ornament or as a protective coating, a technique used by jewelry throughout history.
