"Penca de Balangadan" is the name of amulets of the Afro- Brazilian tradition, originating in the Bahia coast. It is an amulet protecting from evil spirits and inviting health into ones life. The charms, shaped as fruits and vegetables, are symbols signifying fertility, well-being, good fortune, happiness, longevity, or are linked to protective deities (orixás) in the Afro-Brazilian faith. This Penca is made of silver and various semi- precious stones.
