LA BAR MITSVA - oil on canvas by Moshe Gabay

This oil  painting is composed of two stages and 26 figures. The bar-mitzva boys are first called to the Torah and then proceed home accompanied by the congregants.

Gabbai was born in Morocco to a family of rabbis and kabbalists (his late father is in the kabbalist section of Tiberias) and immigrated to Israel in 1945 with the first pioneering nucleus from Morocco. He was a kibbutz member for 16 years and a regular army man.
Moshe Gabbai has been painting and sculpting since childhood. During his mission abroad on behalf of the state, he studied in Paris and qualified as a painting teacher

Gabbai uses an oil on canvas painting technique, using intense colors, which is suitable for perpetuating the popular tradition and highlighting popular opinions and beliefs while calculating gematria sayings.

he was among the only painters who focused on an artistic work that documents the heritage of Moroccan Jews in all its nuances.
