Spirit dogs like the Saluki have been around for at least 5,000 years. The earliest remains of these dogs were found in excavations in Shumer and date from 6,000-7,000 BC.
Because of the breed's noble and unique appearance, the
Sighthound often occupied the artists of the various cultures in which it existed, and is considered one of the most painted breeds in art, starting from the time of Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The statue was purchased in the flea market of Haifa (northern Israel) from the oldest store in the market 20 years ago ( 2003 )
